Hi guys! We got our 38 Special off her forms yesterday. First we had to build the cradles to receive the hull after we popped her off the forms. That wasn't too painful. But then one end form we had an awful time with. It didn't want to "release". I just about had an aneurysm plus blew every capillary in my body but she came off undamaged. Here's the before shot which you guys saw a couple weeks ago. And some after shots; Another; Last one; Last one is at the stern looking forward to the bow. The bottom of the canoe is not really that flat - it's an optical illusion. You can see some of the phenomenal twists these strips went through from one end of the canoe to the other. We have a temporary brace installed at the midpoint to prevent the hull from spreading at the gunnels. The shadow from the brace very accurately shows the shape of the tumblehome of this particular hull. Now we get to fair the inside of the hull and do the fiberglass & epoxy coat like we did for the outer hull. Then the ash & cherry trimout will add I'm guessing 8-12 pounds of weight. Weight of the finished canoe should be about 46-50 pounds. What did yours weight out as Troy? OH!! Off to the side are the hull forms which we were thinking were going to be stapless (hence the holes in the forms) but we chickened out. Thanks for looking Our butts were dragging last night!
