I am building a 12 ft cedar strip canoe. I laid up two layers of cloth and wetted it out with Total Boat resin and slow cure hardener. after I got everything sanded, I applied a coat of Varathane Ultimate Spar urethane for the UV protection. DO NOT USE THIS ON YOUR CURED FIBERGLASS SURFACES! After waiting 48 hours this stuff was still sticky. i called the help number on the back of the can and I was told that it is designed for porous surfaces, such as table tops, garage floors, and wood furniture. The only way to remove that gooey mess was to scrub it off with mineral spirits. I ran my hand over the surface and the resin started balling up under my hand! I had to sand all of that softened resin off with the orbital sander and even then it balled up on the sandpaper. I am going to have to lay another coat of resin onto the hull, because it is down to the fabric in some spots. The label states that satisfaction is guaranteed but don't you believe that. The jerk i talked to told me that it is not a defective product since i used it on the non-porous surface. Do not use this product.!
